Range: Southeastern Cameroon to southern Ethiopia and Uganda

Habitat: Swamps, bamboo and dry mountain forests near rivers and streams

Size: Length with tail, 3.5 to 5 feet; weight, 9 to 17 pounds

Diet: Fruit, leaves, sprouts and invertebrates

Characteristics: The DeBrazza's monkey's tail is longer than it's combined head and body length and is used mainly for balancing.

This animal has an olive-gray color with a white mustache, a white beard, and an orange-red, crescent-shaped forehead. It also has a white rump, a white thigh stripe and, in males, a blue scrotum. A vocal sac inflates and permits the animal to create booming calls. DeBrazza's monkeys usually live in small family groups consisting of the parent pair and their offspring, although they sometimes live in one male, multi-female groups.

Threats: While leopards, crested eagles and pythons are all predators of the DeBrazza's monkey, its biggest threats are habitat destruction and range fragmentation.
